Conservation Of AUSA Fort

Heritage Structures perform vital role in nation’s history, culture and signify the richness of it.

To augment life and enhance strength, their restoration is very important for the future generations to have knowledge about how mankind lived in past ages.

Marathwada once, the nursery of Indian culture in general and architecture in particular has witnessed a great efflorescence in art, architecture and sculpture. In the Mediaeval India, a separate category of military garrison evolved apart from the earlier existing category of fortified habitations.

A general overview of the evolution of the military architecture in the Indian Subcontinent indicates that though many settlements continued as the fortified habitats, some emerged as the special military bases devoid of civilian population.

This period also provides evidences of the fortified ports. Some Forts of Marathwada that flared in middle ages turned towards deterioration over years, due to various external factors such asclimatic conditions, lack of maintenance etc.

One such fort is the Ausa fort for which the State Department of Archaeology and Museums made efforts it. Due to lack of awareness and amenities, only a part of it is being exposed to the scholarly world by the present study.

Our effort is to fill the gap, with an intensive survey of this fort and preserve the rich lineage of our history.

We hope this proposal highlights the need for greater awareness of the history and the need to take measures of the immediate effects and of the long term conservation and management issues of Ausa fort.
